So, my wife thought it would be fun to paint my daughter's room while she is gone for Spring Break. She also convinced me to agree that the floor needed to be replaced. We've lived in this house almost 9 years and the carpets are very bad.
I have already replaced all the downstairs carpet with some click-together laminate flooring. That's a story for another time.
This time, the wife wants vinyl flooring. So, last weekend we went to the home improvement store to see what we could see. We found some cheap printed stuff that looks like wood and that's what she decided on.
Now, prior to this trip there had been lots of discussion about the various flooring materials and methods to lay them. What I got from my wife was "it's sooooo easy. You just put the tape on the floor and lay the vinyl!"
Whatever.
The sub-floor in my daughter's room (and I'm sure every other upstairs room, as well) is completely covered in drywall spray. Guess what? The tape doesn't stick. Not so easy now, is it?
One thing that I haven't mentioned yet is all the "simple" projects that my wife wants me to do. Not a SINGLE one of them has ever gone according to her pipe dreams. She estimates in very aggressive, pie-in-the-sky timeframes. For instance, she was (cold reality has finally set in on this one) convinced that we would be done with the floor in a couple hours. Not exactly. We are now in hour 7 so far.
She always gets pissed when I look at her and say "yet another simple project gone horribly awry." I can't tell if she's pissed at me or the project, but truth is the truth, so I just don't let it bother me. She'll get over it once the floor is finally done....whenever that may be.
Since the tape won't work, she has now gone back to the home improvement store for some liquid adhesive and I'm just going to glue that sucker down and hope for the best. I've already pieced the closet area and tried to make the tape stick. Since it's just the closet, I won't feel guilty if it moves a tiny bit.
I'm about to take the big piece up for the bedroom floor and start cutting it to size. I still have to deal with the seams....I can't wait to see how "easy" and "simple" that will be!
